I had wanted a fry cutter for years. Tim bought me one for Christmas 2018. We finally tried it out. We don’t eat fries much around here. We do like potatoes but fries aren’t our favorite. Some people love fries though. Minimal ingredients, cheap, and cook up fast. Anyone else make homemade fries at home? Or does most just buy frozen? Do you prefer to peel the potatoes. We like skins on. I also prefer to make them with red skin potatoes. But Russets are good too. In this recipe, my potatoes were small which results in smaller fries. Clean potatoes, peel if you want Cut with knife or use a fry cutter Pat dry, removing all excess water on potatoes I like to use a heavy set cast iron pan. If you have deep fryer. Deep fry as per instructions. Deep fry in pan, oil should be 300-330F. We’re going to deep fry each batch twice! I deep fry all batches, for about 6-7minutes each and put them on paper towel. Just til potatoes are starting to soften and blister. Then turn the oil up til you reach 400F, deep fry each batch for 4-6 minutes til fries are crisp and golden.Lay out on paper towel in batches. Sea salt it good sprinkled on them. My family prefers seasoning salt. One for the kids and one for us :0)This is a nice colander. Works well for us!
Aka Strawberry Jam & Biscuits 2CUPS all purpose flour 1TBSP baking powder 1TBSP granulated sugar 1TSP salt 6TBSP butter or margarine, cold 3/4 cup whole milk is best but any works 3/4CUP Strawberry jamPreheat oven to 425F and spray muffin pan. This can be done on just a regular cookie pan which is what I used to use before I had this dish! Either pans work Set aside. Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a bowl and mix well. Set aside.I cut the cold butter/margarine up in cubes and mix in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk, stir until combined (shouldn’t over work the dough)
I like to take the dough and divide it all up roughly into 24 balls/pieces I smooch 1 piece of dough all around pan making a little well in the middle. Using a muffin pan it will resemble more of a tart look at the bottom of pan. I put 1- 1 1/2TBSP of Strawberry jam in each pillow. Then cover each pillow with remaining of dough smooching down all around the edges to slightly bring the two doughs together.
Bake at 425F for about 12 minutes or until tops are beginning to brown.
I remove from pan right away. You can also brush these with butter when they come out but we find its not needed.Love this pan! We use it so much!
2 1/4CUPS all purpose flour 1CUP granulated sugar 1/2TSP kosher salt 1CUP butter or margarine, room temperature 1 egg 1/2TSP vanilla extract 1/3CUP each strawberry & raspberry jam mixed togetherPreheat oven to 350°F. Coat a 9×9 pan with nonstick spray. Set aside. I was making it extra special for Tim today hehe so I molded the dough into a heart shape on my cast iron pizza pan. In a large bowl mix together flour, sugar, and salt. Add in the egg, butter, and vanilla combine, I use my hands until the dough comes together.
Divide the dough in half and press one half into the bottom of the prepared pan. Spread the raspberry strawberry jam on top.
You can crumble the remaining dough onto of the jam or use small cookie cutters and make shapes with the dough like I did. I love cooking with my cast iron pans!
Bake for 40 minutes until lightly browned. Allow to cool completely
I wanted to make sure the heart stayed in its shape. So I put foil all around it when it cooked. I don’t think it was needed though.
Once cooked they should be able to be taken out of pan quite easily. Made it extra special for my hubby and made a T (for his name Tim haha), he loved it! Great recipe.Love our cornbread pan!Love this cast iron pizza pan! It’s a beast and it gets used for a ton of things!
These have become pretty fun for us. I made a plate for kids to share and for Tim and I to share. Use heat safe soup bowls. thinly sliced beef-your choice, we used top sirlion 2TBSP sauce- your choice, I put soya sauce, water, hoisin, oyster sauce, chilis, sesame seeds & green onions. Top with vegetables-your choice, I used broccoli, broccoli stems & water chestnuts Top that with beat eggs 2 per bowl and green onionsMix meat with sauce on bottom of bowl. I didn’t do anything nice to this meat but you can place it nicer in the bowl on the bottom, which will result in looking nice when it’s flipped out. Beat eggs. Prep rest of Vegetables
After your meat is in there all sauced up. Add your Vegetables, in layers if using different ones. Top with beat eggs, and green onion. Thai Chilis optional as always! Put them in your steamer trays and steam for 20minutes.
I serve these dumped on-top of sticky rice. Remove bowls from steamer and I take butter knife/chop stick and loosen the top edge all around the egg.I like to mold my rice too. Makes it look pretty. Gently tilt bowl over rice and flip out.We like this bamboo steamer
I had four wrappers left over from making egg rolls today. I cut them in inch long, by half inch wide pieces.Deep fried at 370F for just a couple minutes til browned.I put some spicy chicken spice on them. These are great. And an excellent salad topper!
